Stephen Luke Clements Denies Involvement in Death of Rasheem Carter
Clements's family had to go into hiding due to a plethora of online threats

25-year-old Rasheem Carter from Fayette, Mississippi, was hired by Stephen Clements to work as Contract Labor at the Georgia-Pacific plant in Taylorsville, Mississippi.
During his last conversations with his mother, Tiffany Carter, on October 1st and 2nd, Carter told his mother that his life was in danger. He said that he was being threatened by three trucks of white men. He also said that his boss, Stephen Clements of Pleasant Hill, NC, had “targeted him,” and if anything happened to him, Clements would be responsible.
Carter disappeared after his last conversation with his mother on October 2, 2022. Rasheem’s skeletal remains were discovered a month later, on November 2, 2022, in a wooded area near Taylorsville, Mississippi, after a landowner turned a Trail Cam photo over to the Taylorsville Police Department.
In an interview, on March 27, with Ashleigh Banfield of NewsNation, Clements denied involvement in Carter’s disappearance and death. Clements stated that he and his family have gone into hiding due to the horrific threats to him, his wife, and his children.
Clements has had to lay off employees and discontinue any contracts due to the threats.
Clements stated that once his name was mentioned in Carter’s disappearance, he began to receive threats but that it became “relentless” when Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump became involved, and National News picked up the story.
Banfield read some of the online threats that Clements and his family have received. Many threats had to be redacted due to the wording.
According to Banfield, evidence supports the fact that Clements was not involved. She did not elaborate on the “evidence.”
Clements stated that he also wants to know what happened to Carter, and he is willing to assist in any way possible.
The investigation into Rasheem’s death is ongoing.
